We celebrated International Women’s Day by inviting more women than ever (over 70 of them), to take part in our 9th year of occupation of the PhonicFM studio in Exeter.
And how extraordinary it was!
We decided not to have separate programmes as such this year, preferring that women hosted the space for an hour or two with various guests and packages during that time.
We hope you will enjoy this new strategy which attempts to move away from the norm and find a more feminist and connecting way of broadcasting. It may seem random at first but if you persevere and listen in, you may come across some views and ideas that captivate you.
What you will hear if you follow the links on this page is 16hrs of broadcasts and live conversations with women who responded to the invitation to contribute to this year’s theme: ‘Tipping Points’.
You will find an amazing variety of stories, thoughts and ideas explored during the day; from local responses to climate change to the effects of life changes on individuals, local and national projects including seed exchange, to exploring wellbeing on the local estuary with sounds and music.
Content includes recorded packages, produced by intersectional artists, poets, writers and activists. Many of these by first-time podcasters.
And let’s not forget the wonderful music that was played throughout the day – the sounds of women being played throughout the day…
We hope you will agree with us that it’s wonderful to be able to listen at your leisure to the day. Many thanks to all who contributed in any way – we couldn’t do it without you!
We would love to hear your feedback as we prepare for our 10th year of occupation in March 2025. Also, look out for our new monthly broadcast on Phonic FM – 2nd Thurs of the month between 2pm-4pm.
